CALL TO CONFESSION
At this moment, water will be poured into the font while the Tibetan bowl will be beaten thrice.
Pastor: God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The proof of God’s amazing love is this: While we were sinners Christ died for us. Because we have faith in him, we dare to approach God in confidence. (Rom. 5:5, 8; Heb. 4:16) Confident in God’s grace, let us confess our sin before God and one another.
A moment of silence may be observed for personal confession. The Tibetan bowl here will be beaten thrice

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Pastor: God our Parent, we confess to you that we have failed to be your children. We have trusted in the things of this world far more than in you. We put security in money, hope in politicians, and spend more time following celebrities than Jesus. We share love and family only when the calendar tells us we have to. Our values, work-ethics, and priorities show our sour fruits. We are broken. Forgive us we pray.
(The Rev. Nathan Decker, 21st Century Liturgy, Sundays After Pentecost, www.umcdiscipleship.org)
A moment of silence and the Tibetan bowl will be beaten thrice.

+WORDS OF ASSURANCE
Lifting water from the font with both hands, the pastor proclaims:
Hear the good news! There is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:39).
Anyone is joined to Christ is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come (2 Cor. 5:17). In union with Christ, we might share the righteousness of God (2 Cor. 5:21).
Thanks be to God!
