THANKSGIVING AND COMMUNION[1]
(For the World AIDS Day or
related celebration)
TAKING THE BREAD AND CUP
The pastor,
standing behind the Lord’s Table, facing the people from this time through
Breaking the Bread, takes the bread and cup; and the bread and wine are
prepared for the meal.
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
Pastor: The Lord be with you!
People: And also with you!
People: And also with you!
Pastor: Lift up your hearts. The pastor will lift hands and keep them raised.
People: We lift them up to the Lord
Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give our thanks and praise
People: We lift them up to the Lord
Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give our thanks and praise
Pastor:
It is right
and good to give our thanks and praise to you, O God our Parent. For you
created as male and female with the capacity to establish empowering
relationship, and an inhabited world that is a sanctuary for each other. We
breathe with your breath, and called as “good” in the creation. Your love, God
our Parent remain steadfast and through your prophets and Jesus Christ you
taught us to love our neighbor, especially the poor, oppressed, marginalized,
exploited, and deprived, and like the people living with HIV and AIDS and their
families. You delivered us from captivity and made covenant with us. And so
with all the prophets of yesterday and of today, and all the martyrs and saints
we sing a hymn of unending praise.
The pastor will lower his/her hands.
All: HOLY, HOLY, HOLY LORD! GOD OF POWER AND MIGHT.
HEAVEN AND EARTH ARE FULL OF YOUR GLORY. HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST! BLESSED THE
ONE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD. HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST!
The pastor will raise his/her hands.
Pastor: Holy are you, O God our Parent, because you loved
the world so much, you sent your beloved Son Jesus, preach good news to the
poor, to proclaim freedom for the prisoners, recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed, and to proclaim the Day of the Lord. By the baptism
of Jesus’ suffering, death and resurrection, you gave birth to your Church,
delivered us from the bondage of sin and death, and made with us a new covenant
by water and the Spirit.
The pastor will hold hands, palms
down, over the bread or lift the bread.
On the night in which Jesus gave himself for us, He
took bread baked by the women, gave thanks to You, broke the bread and gave is
to his disciples, and said: “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of Me.”
The pastor will hold hands, palms
down, over the cup or lift the cup.
When the supper was over he took the cup, gave
thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: “Drink from this, all of
you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for
the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of
Me.”
The pastor will raise his/her hands.
With this bread and with this wine, we eat and drink
in solidarity with our sisters and brothers living with HIV and AIDS, and their
families, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
All:
CHRIST HAS
DIED; CHRIST IS RISEN; CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN.
The pastor will hold hands, palms
down, over the bread and cup.
Pastor:
Pour out
your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gift of bread and wine. Make
them be for us the body and blood of Christ that we may be for the world the
body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.
The pastor will raise his/her hands.
By the same Spirit heal us in body, mind, and
spirit, cleansing away all that separates us from you. By your Spirit make us
one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world,
until Christ comes in victory, and we feast at God’s banquet. Through you Son
Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your Holy Church, all honor and glory is
yours, God our Parent, now and for-ever.
All:
Amen! Amen!
Amen!
THE LORD’S PRAYER
The pastor’s
hands will be extended in open invitation.
And now, with confidence of
children of God, let us pray.
The pastor will
raise his/her hands.
Dios
na Magulang, Banal ang ngalan.
Pamamayani ay sumaamin. Gawin nawa ang ‘yong
kalooban.
Sa lupa gaya ng sa langit.
Ipagkaloob ngayon sa amin, pang-araw-araw naming
kakanin.
Kami sa sala ay patawarin, nagpapatawad sa kapwa
rin.
H’wag mong sa tukso’y kami’y tulutan. Kundi iligtas
sa kasamaan.
Pamamayani,
kapangyarihan,
kaluwalhatian, sa ‘Yong tanan. Amen
THE
BREAKING OF THE BREAD
The pastor, still standing behind the Lord’s table facing the people,
breaks the bread while saying:
Because
there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the
one loaf. The bread which we break is a sharing in the body of Christ.
The pastor lifts the cup while saying:
The
cup over which we give thanks is a sharing in the blood of Christ.
GIVING THE BREAD AND CUP
The bread and wine are given to the people with these words being
exchanged:
The
body of Christ, given for you. AMEN.
The blood of Christ, given for you. AMEN.
