THE HOLY COMMUNION AT THE LABYRINTH

THE HOLY COMMUNION AT THE LABYRINTH
Start our walking prayer by addressing and acknowledging God, stating our intention to experience God’s presence through this meditative walk. And as we walk through the labyrinth, focus our attention towards God considering the following guide questions:
1.        What are the things that I need to let go?
2.        What obstacles prevent me to have a closer relationship with God?
As we go along with our journey, allow ourselves in the moment of silence to experience God’s healing presence, voice, and liberating challenge. Then on the way out from the center of the labyrinth, ask God to continually guide us by God’s wisdom and love.

Our meditative walk with the labyrinth allows us to experience the triple kinesis of God. (1) The searching God descending into our human experiences through the Creations and of Jesus Christ. (2) God’s presence in our human experiences ascending us to the state of being redeemed, enlightened, and empowered. And (3) God through us and with us re-descending to the poor, oppressed, marginalized, exploited, deprived but struggling people thus they may affirm that God our Parent is not just loving and caring, but God is Love (1 John 4:8, 16). The God who called and sends us to live out the spirituality that touches the wholeness of life; creating hopes, opportunities, communities where everybody can express freely and share their own humanity and sexuality; and to launch the new story of life and hope which is a life giving and other affirming.

Place the candles around outside of the labyrinth and along some of its paths. A small table is set at the center of the labyrinth. On it are placed a candle, flowers, and a cups of wine. Participants gather near the entrance of the labyrinth. The pastor will preside using the traditional readings and prayers.

THANKSGIVING AND COMMUNION
COMMUNION HYMN “ONE BREAD, ONE BODY”
UMH# 620
Refrain:
One bread, one body, one Lord of all, one cup of blessing which we bless, and we, though many throughout the earth, we are one body in this one Lord.
Gentile or Jew, servant or free, woman or man, no more. R
Many the gifts, many the works. One in the Lord of all. R
Grain for the fields, scattered and grown, gathered to one, for all. R
TAKING THE BREAD AND CUP
The pastor, standing behind the Lord’s table facing the people from this time, through Breaking the Bread, takes the bread and cup; and the bread and wine are prepared for the meal.
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
Presider: The Lord be with you.
People: And with thy spirit.
Pastor: Lift up your hearts. The pastor may lift up hands and keep them raised.
People: We lift them up unto the Lord.
Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Pastor: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Holy Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. From the rising of the sun to its setting your name is praised among all peoples. Therefore, we praise you, joining our voices with your people on earth and all the company of heaven who forever sing this hymn to the glory of your name:
The pastor may lower hands. The people sing:
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY LORD, GOD OF POWER AND MIGHT, HEAVEN AND EARTH ARE FULL OF YOUR GLORY. HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST. BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD. HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST.
The pastor may raise hands.
Pastor: Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ. Your Spirit anointed him to preach good news to the poor, to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, and to announce that the time had come when you would save your people. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and ate with sinners. By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit. When the Lord Jesus ascended, he promised to be with us always, in the power of your Word and Holy Spirit.
The pastor may hold hands, palms down, over the bread of teach the bread, or lift the bread.
On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
The pastor may lift or touch the chalice.
When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: “Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
The pastor may raise hands.
And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
All: CHRIST HAS DIED; CHRIST IS RISEN; CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN.
The pastor may hold hands, palms down, over the bread and cup.
Pour our you Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine. Make them be for us the body and the blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly banquet. Through you Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church, and all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and for ever.
All: Amen.

BREAKING THE BREAD
PRAYER OF HUMBLE ACCESS
The Pastor may kneel in front of the Lord’s Table.
We do not presume to come to this thy table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy table. But thou art the same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to partake of this Sacrament of thy Son Jesus Christ, that we may walk in newness of life, may grow into his likeness, and may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.
The people may be sung.
KORDERO NG DIOS, NA NAG-AALIS NG MGA KASALANAN SA SANLIBUTAN
MAAWA KA, MAAWA KA SA AMIN.
KORDERO NG DIOS NA NAG-AALIS NG MGA KASALANAN SA SANLIBUTAN
IPAGKALOOB MO ANG IYONG KAPAYAPAAN.
GIVING THE BREAD AND CUP
Standing at the entrance, the presiding pastor gives each person the bread with a traditional statement such as, “The body of Christ is given for you and for many for the forgiveness of sin.” Once receiving the host, the participant must journey towards the center to the wine, the Blood of Christ, to complete the sacrament. At the center the participants partake of the sacrament, and on the way out have time for more reflection, celebration, or thanksgiving.
