THE SCHOOL OF LIVING TRADITION
Rev. Jeric C. Cortado, April
30, 2016
After
our arrival at Lake Sebu National High School where the Summer Institute 2016
of the United Methodist Youth Fellowship – MinPAC held, we immediately visited
the School of Living Tradition founded by Maria “Oyog” Todi, a nominee for a
Living Treasure on Performing Arts, a cultural bearer of the T’Boli Tribe. I
have given the opportunity to have a conversation with her, learn about the
school she founded. The School of Living Tradition is a non-formal education
which intends to transfer the T’Boli indigenous knowledge, arts, and traditions
to the next generation of the tribe.
It is a school of living tradition because of its intentions and method of transferring the indigenous skills and spirituality to T’Boli children and let them appreciate deeply their very own indigenous cultures and traditions.
And being mold to become a cultural bearer
of their own community, expert to their arts and spirituality; passionately
protect their distinct identity and dignity.
It is a school of living tradition because of its intentions and method of transferring the indigenous skills and spirituality to T’Boli children and let them appreciate deeply their very own indigenous cultures and traditions.
